SPORT

SPORT

Swartland Primary School’s sports philosophy is grounded in the principle of providing every learner with the opportunity to participate in sports during the summer and winter seasons. We believe in the value of mass participation as a means of individual and communal development, encouraging each learner’s potential for long-term development rather than merely striving for short-term achievement. This approach also aims to establish a strong ethic of good sportsmanship among our learners.

We offer the following sports:

Athletics

Cricket

Tennis

Chess

Hockey

Netball

Rugby

Cross Country

u.6 Sports Day

Our school provides various opportunities for our learners to practise their sports skills and put them to the test during matches and sports days. One of our favourite sports events is the u.6 learners’ first Sports Day in the third term, where they participate in various netball and rugby teams.

Outeniqua Sports Weekend

The highlight on our sports calendar is the annual sports weekend, in the first week, of August when we compete against Outeniqua Primary School. Various sports teams (tennis, rugby, netball, hockey and chess) compete against Outeniqua

Every second year, our buses take us on an exciting journey to this event. The sports weekend serves as a platform for our learners proudly to represent their school and to showcase their skills. The event is more than just a competition – it is a gathering of two schools, fostering friendships and creating a special bond between Swartland and Outeniqua.

This weekend also provides a unique opportunity for our learners to break away from the school grounds and routine. We are fortunate to spend our weekend in the hostel of another high school, presenting a learning experience in itself, which enriches our learners and allows them to gain a new perspective on their own lives.

It is a weekend of emotion, excitement, and hard, healthy competition!
